"Sustainability is part of our DNA"

400 employees, 10 locations in Switzerland, 2 in Germany, and a strong complete portfolio around timber construction: this is what the Strüby companies in Seewen, Schwyz stand for. Founded in 1949, the company regularly invests in state-of-the-art technology and places great importance on sustainability. That is why Strüby relies on the services and offerings of TBS Swiss – for example, when old machines need to be replaced with new ones. A current example of this is the replacement of the board stacking system at the production site in Root LU.

„"Successfully plan – build with joy" is the motto of Strüby. The specialists in modern timber construction solutions offer their customers a unique complete service from planning to turnkey homes. A literally supporting role is played by the floor and ceiling elements produced by Strüby using the glulam stacking method. For those who want to reach great heights in timber construction, high-quality building elements with high load capacities are essential for the structure..

Increase efficiency and sustainability

In order to meet the self-imposed high quality standards even more efficiently and sustainably than before, the company implemented a large-scale investment project in 2024 – in cooperation with TBS Swiss, among others. This included the purchase, installation, and commissioning of a new board stacking system. “The existing system had been in operation with us for 13 years at that time,” recalls Reto Bundi, production manager at Strüby. “Wear and tear is normal in this case. With the new investment, we also wanted to further increase our depth of manufacturing and boost production capacity.“

The company has now fully achieved these goals. Moreover: "The new board stacking system features an innovative connection system and allows for the use of various wood qualities. This has enabled us to further increase our wood yield and sustainability in production," explains Bundi..

Responsible machine replacement with extra profit

What has become of the old Hundegger board stacking system? The company Strüby does not simply replace old machines and production systems as needed; instead, it is always striving to repurpose them with the help of TBS Swiss. "Fortunately, we had no pressure in this regard," says Bundi, "because the new system was installed in a newly constructed hall specifically for this purpose." Therefore, there were no space issues – and the potential proceeds from the sale of the old machine were not relevant for the new purchase. Although, an extra profit is always welcome.

"When it comes to the recycling of used machines, something else is at the forefront for us. It's about the sustainable management of valuable resources," says Bundi and explains: "Sustainability is part of our DNA as woodworkers. The resale of decommissioned machines fits perfectly into this. Especially since we have a partner in TBS Swiss who ensures a smooth process and complements us structurally and organizationally in an optimal way." .

 Value Partnership for Progress

The partnership between Strüby and TBS Swiss has existed for a long time and has proven itself many times over. Marco Rüegg, Managing Director of TBS Swiss, provides comprehensive support to customers operating nationally and internationally, such as the Swiss wood builder. The range of services extends from consulting on systems, machinery, and processes for manufacturing companies to the evaluation and disposal of used machines..

The old board stacking system from Strüby is now located in Eastern Europe and is once again producing ceiling and floor elements. The used system was purchased by an emerging timber construction company that was able to elevate its production to a new level with the help and mediation of TBS Swiss. This has created a win-win situation for all parties involved. This is typical of TBS Swiss – your partner for trust, progress, and success..
